0 0 0 The water cluster, headed by MODE, held its national consultation last August 22, 2006 at St. Therese College, Quezon City. This served as venue for presenting the research conducted by MODE on the water situation in Samar, also a venue to review the plans of the cluster. The consultation gave way to the expansion of the cluster membership, which is composed of three organizations from Mindanao, four from Luzon, and the MODE partners in Eastern Visayas. The cluster presented their agenda to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), which was noted as the agency in charged with regulating and monitoring local water supply. PKKK was also invited to participate in the National Road Mapping for the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector, which was spearheaded by DILG and GTZ last January 2007 at Subic, Olongapo. The PKKK will sit in the technical working group of the road mapping project. The sustainable agriculture and right to food cluster was able to finalize its primer on the Sustainable Agriculture primer for Women. There were 1000 copies printed and distributed equally to the provinces and member organizations. The Sus Ag cluster, headed by Kasarian-Kalayaan (Sarilaya), also facilitated a dialogue with the Gender Program of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) last June 2007. The dialogue served as venue to exchange information between the IRRI gender experts and the rural women leaders concerning the realities on the ground. The visit to IRRI also informed these twenty (20) rural women on how the IRRI Seedbank operates; they were also able to request traditional rice seed varieties. In preparation for the World Food Day campaign, the PKKK assessed that it would be helpful to highlight the role of the women in the food and water security through a nationwide assessment and monitoring tool. There were two workshops conducted last September to arrive at a Food and Water Security Assessment, Planning and Monitoring (A/P/M) tool. The tool aims to assist the organization in the community in determining the situation of food and water security/insecurity at the household, organization and community levels. Accompanied with educational and conscientisation processes, the tool can also help identify the interventions to such situation; the same tool will be used for regular monitoring of the situation and interventions. The tool incorporates gender perspective in all areas of food access, distribution and production (refer to Annex ….). There was a soft launching of the tool last October 15, 2007 during the activity of the Philippine NGO Liaison Committee on Fair Trade and Food Security (PNLC).
